Novel Integrated Active and Passive Control of Fluid-Borne Noise in Hydraulic Systems

Abstract Fluid-borne noise (FBN) is a major contributor to structure-borne (SBN) and air-borne (ABN) in hydraulic fluid power systems could lead increased fatigue system components. FBN caused by the unsteady flow generated pumps motors propagates through resulting SBN ABN. New technologies such as digital switched converters also generate unavoidable FBN. This article reports on novel integrated attenuation approach, which employs hybrid control integrating an active feed forward attenuator with passive tuned flexible hoses. The consists of adaptive notch filters using variable step-size filtered-X Least Mean Squares algorithm used newly designed high-force high-bandwidth piezoelectric actuator order attenuate dominant narrowband pressure ripples. hose frequency domain cancel high-frequency A time-domain model considering coupling longitudinal wall waves was system.
